Second-Alarm Fire Brings Auburn Mutual Aid to Lewiston

Lewiston, Maine — September 8, 2026 — On Tuesday night, firefighters arrived at a structure fire located at 425 Main St. an apartment building that had suffered extensive damage from a three-alarm fire just under two months prior. 

According to the City of Lewiston, the Lewiston Fire Department was the first to respond, arriving roughly one minute after the call was dispatched. Firefighters discovered that the roof of the three-story building was heavily involved in the fire. Due to the structural damage caused by the July fire, crews first took a defensive approach before entering the building to finish extinguishing the fire.

The September 8 fire was upgraded to a second alarm, bringing additional firefighters from Auburn to assist Lewiston crews. Firefighters used aerial streams to attack the fire from above while working around the damaged structure. Main Street was partially closed during the response. No injuries were reported.
