Dump Truck Rollover on County Route 49: Cossayuna Fire and Mutual Aid Secure Crash Scene

Washington, NY - Volunteer firefighters and regional emergency services responded to a commercial dump truck rollover Wednesday afternoon in Washington County, securing the hazard area and assisting with patient care during an extended roadway clearance operation.

At approximately 12:39 p.m. (1239 hours) on September 9, the Cossayuna Volunteer Fire Department and mutual aid preplan partners were dispatched to the intersection of County Route 49 and North Road for a reported heavy vehicle rollover.

First-arriving emergency personnel confirmed that the dump truck had overturned, but the operator had successfully self-extricated prior to the arrival of first responders. Paramedics from Easton-Greenwich EMS evaluated the driver on site and provided transport to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Fire crews established perimeter control, managed fluid mitigation, and coordinated traffic safety for nearly four hours while heavy-duty wreckers from Tow Away LLC uprighted and removed the damaged vehicle. Operations on and off the scene were supported by a broad multi-agency contingent, including the Argyle Fire Department, Hebron Volunteer Fire Department, Washington County Department of Public Safety/Emergency Services, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC).

At approximately 4:30 p.m., fire units transferred jurisdiction of the site to the Washington County Department of Public Works (DPW) and Highway Department to carry out infrastructure asessments, roadway cleanup, and necessary repairs.
