Franklin Square, N.Y. — October 6 — At approximately 2:00 p.m., the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a private residence located on Nassau Boulevard in West Hempstead following an initial report of the incident.

Upon reaching the scene, firefighters discovered that the structure was engulfed in a significant blaze, with intense flames consuming the building's exterior and spreading to the second story. Engine 711 immediately deployed two hose lines to initiate active fire suppression operations.

Firefighters labored diligently to suppress the blaze and arrest its potential encroachment upon the residence, successfully containing the flames within the structure before they could propagate further. Mutual aid companies from adjacent fire departments were mobilized to augment operational efforts and supply supplementary resources, thereby reinforcing the initial attack and facilitating effective crew management throughout the incident.

First Assistant Chief Joseph Gerrato exercised command over all fire department operations. A blaze at a two-story private residence on Nassau Boulevard prompted evacuation orders for two occupants, while tragically resulting in the deaths of two dogs; fortunately, no injuries were sustained by any humans.

The etiology of the conflagration continues to be the subject of ongoing inquiry. Operating out of its headquarters located at 841 Liberty Place in Franklin Square, the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department delivered essential fire protection and emergency response services to the community. This event underscored the critical necessity of rapid first-arrival responses, strategic hose-line deployment, and seamless mutual aid coordination when addressing residential conflagrations.
