Aggressive Interior Attack: Montgomery Volunteers Extinguish Apartment Fire on Meadows Complex

MONTGOMERY, NJ — Firefighters mounted an aggressive interior fire attack and extensive overhaul operation Tuesday night, rapidly halting a structure fire inside a residential multi-family building before it could spread through the complex.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on September 1, Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 and Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, alongside the Rocky Hill Fire Department, were dispatched to the Meadows at Montgomery in Somerset County for an initial report of an indoor smoke condition.

While units were responding, additional 911 emergency calls reported visible smoke and flames discharging from exterior building vents, prompting dispatchers to upgrade the assignment to a 1st Alarm Structure Fire.

Arriving crews stretched attack handlines into the interior of the affected apartment unit. Firefighters opened ceilings and wall assemblies to access and aggressively knock down all active fire. Exterior teams made tactical inspection cuts along the outer walls of the structure to confirm the flames had not extended through concealed voids behind the point of origin, while utility control teams secured incoming gas and electrical services to the unit.

Following suppression, crews deployed positive-pressure ventilation fans to clear lingering smoke from the corridors, allowing most neighboring residents to safely reoccupy their units.
