Bristol Firefighters Received Mutual Aid at Remote Fire

BRISTOL, ME — August 29 — Bristol Maine Fire and Rescue responded to the Quail Run area at 3:20 p.m.to investigate smoke.The crew discovered nearly three-quarters of an acre of smoldering ground located a quarter-mile past Young’s Road.A drone from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office played a key role in finding the fire.

Firefighters from Damariscotta, Bremen, and South Bristol assisted with the response through 8 p.m.

The crews returned at 8 a.m.on Sunday to complete mop-up operations.To reach and put out the hot spots, they used three portable pumps, 1,600 feet of hose, two four-wheelers, and several utility vehicles.

The department confirmed that the fire was caused by a lightning strike from a storm approximately two weeks prior.

Wind later carried the smoke into view, prompting local residents to inform the fire chief.

The response involved cleanup, drying of the hose, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, refueling, and repacking before the crews were ready to resume operations.

Regional mutual aid continued to be essential for fire protection in Lincoln County.
