Richmond Structure Fire Draws Mutual Aid From Across Region

Firefighters from over a dozen cities came to A&W Auto Sales and Service on Brunswick Road on Monday afternoon due to a significant building fire in Richmond.

On September 7, just after 12:30 p.m., the fire was reported. A second alarm and a massive mutual-aid reaction were triggered when Richmond firemen arrived to discover a quickly expanding fire at the vehicle sales and repair company.

Richmond, Bowdoinham, Bowdoin, Litchfield, Lisbon, Dresden, Topsham, Brunswick, Gardiner, Pittston, Farmingdale, and Woolwich were among the departments that responded. The reaction was also backed by the Sagadahoc County Communications Center.

The building was regarded as a complete loss. One employee did not need to be transported to a hospital after receiving treatment for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Afterward, the Maine State incident Marshal's Office concluded that the incident was unintentional. While someone was welding inside the garage, a car caught fire, according to investigators. The fire then spread throughout the structure and to cars outside.

During the massive operation, agencies from all around the region sent more firemen and resources to Richmond, demonstrating the value of mutual help.
