One Sprinkler Limits Damage in Avon Industrial Fire

August 26, 2026 — Avon, Massachusetts: A single working sprinkler prevented the fire from spreading when the Avon Fire Department responded to a fire inside a sizable industrial facility on Wednesday.

The agency claims that the sprinkler was activated directly over the fire's origin and kept it under control until firemen arrived and finished extinguishing it.

The department stated that there was little damage because the sprinkler system was installed and maintained correctly, and the business was able to start up again the next day.

The incident was used by the department to emphasize the value of automated sprinklers in both residential and commercial buildings. It referenced a 15-year study on sprinkler performance in Scottsdale, Arizona, which discovered that residences with sprinkler protection consumed less water during fires and had much lower average fire losses.

The Avon Fire Department said sprinklers can control fires early, helping limit damage and allowing occupants and businesses to recover more quickly. The town identifies fire prevention and building safety as important parts of its public-safety programs.
