Hours on the Line: New Market Crews Help Secure High-Volume Water Supply in South Brunswick

Piscataway, NJ - Firefighters from the New Market Fire Department spent hours overnight establishing a critical water supply line to help knock down a massive commercial wood fire at Reliable Wood Products.

The call for mutual aid came in around 7:08 p.m. on August 31, when Middlesex County coordinators requested New Market to deploy as part of a specialized Large Diameter Hose (LDH) task force. The complex incident in South Brunswick Township required an enormous, uninterrupted volume of water to suppress deep-seated, heavy burning across the site.

Operating throughout the night, the task force laid extensive runs of high-capacity hose to draft and pump water from a nearby source directly to operating master streams and engine companies on the fireground. The specialized LDH setup is a crucial regional resource designed to move massive fire flow over long distances when local infrastrcture is pushed to its limits.

Crews worked through the night to maintain pressure and keep the supply lines flowing smothly before finally being released from the scene around 2:00 a.m. the following morning.
