Vehicle Crashes Down Embankment in New Scotland, Bursts Into Flames

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

A vehicle crashed down an embankment and burst into flames back in June in the Town of New Scotland.

First responders were called to the area of 899 Krumkill Rd around 3:40 p.m. on Friday, June 27, for a report of a vehicle rollover down an embankment and on fire.

Chief Steve Ayers of the New Salem Fire Department says the vehicle was approximately 75 feet down the embankment and fully-engulfed.

He says the vehicle was travelling on Krumkill Road towards the Town of Bethlehem when it left the roadway, striking a mailbox and trees before coming to a stop down the embankment.

Additional agencies were requested for tankers as a precaution due to the fully-involved vehicle down the thick brush, as well as no fire hydrants in the area.

On scene included New Salem, North Bethlehem and Slingerlands fire departments, along with Albany County Sheriff’s Ambulance, Albany County Paramedic, Albany County Sheriff’s and New York State Police.

Crews remained on scene until tow crews could remove the burnt vehicle.

The driver was able to get out on their own and there were no injuries reported.
