Pleasantville, NJ - Pleasantville Fire Department crews responded to a reported structure fire in the 700 block of New Jersey Avenue, where initial reports indicated a possible explosion prior to arrival. Upon reaching the scene, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions showing from the structure and immediately initiated an aggressive attack to bring the situation under control.

On 8 September 2026 in Atlantic County, New Jersey, Battalion 1 and responding units worked under rapidly evolving conditions as crews stretched lines, initiated interior operations, and conducted primary searches while simultaneously assessing exposure risks to nearby properties.

As operations continued, firefighters were able to gain control of the main body of fire and transition into exposure protection and overhaul to prevent further extension. Crews coordinated closely throughout the incident to stabilize the scene and ensure no additional spread to surrounding structures.

All occupants were safely out of the residence prior to firefighting operations, and no civilian injuries were reported. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was evaluated on scene. Four residents were displaced, with the American Red Cross responding to assist with temporary housing and support.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
