HAMBURG, N.Y. (Aug. 18, 2025) — The Armor Volunteer Fire Company reported steady activity during its 12-day assignment providing fire protection at the 185th Erie County Fair, which wrapped up Sunday.
Crews handled a mix of calls on and off the fairgrounds, including EMS incidents, vehicle accidents, rubbish and mulch fires, and standby details for large events. In all, firefighters responded to dozens of mutual aid EMS requests throughout the Town of Hamburg and assisted with several fire-related calls in neighboring districts.
Among the most notable incidents: a UTV fire on the fairgrounds on Day 2, a minor car accident on Day 11, and multiple EMS transports across the run of the fair. Crews also stood by at high-profile attractions including the monster truck show and demolition derby, though no serious emergencies occurred during those events.
Officials emphasized the scale of the operation, thanking long-standing mutual aid partners — particularly Hamburg and Scranton fire departments, which provided nightly coverage for fireworks — along with more than a dozen other departments across Erie County.
The company also credited its volunteers and their families, noting the significant time commitment required to serve as the official fire protection provider for one of the largest annual events in western New York.
