Attleboro, MA - Attleboro firefighters battled a large brush fire Sunday afternoon that burned approximately two acres near Haggerty Highway and Willard Road, with crews facing difficult access and limited water availability during the response.

The Attleboro Fire Department was dispatched to the area at approximately 1:15 p.m. following reports of a brush fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a large area of vegetation actively burning, with the fire spreading through the surrounding brush.

Because of the size of the fire, difficult access to the affected area and challenges with establishing an adequate water supply, additional resources were requested to assist the crews. Firefighters worked across the area to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to additional sections of vegetation.

On August 30, crews spent approximately two hours working to bring the brush fire under control. The total area burned was estimated at roughly two acres.

District Chief Mark Renker noted that brush fires can present unique challenges for firefighters, particularly when they occur in areas that are difficult to reach and lack an immediate water supply. Such fires can also spread rapidly, requiring additional personnel and resources to establish control lines and stop the advance of the flames.

Firefighters ultimately contained the fire and prevented further spread. The cause of the brush fire remains unknown and was not immediately determined.
