Charlton, MA — October 6 — The Charlton Fire Department dispatched Engine 3 (E-3) and C-1 to support Oxford firefighters during a second-alarm structure fire at 200 Leicester Street. The Charlton units arrived at around 12:29 a.m.as part of a mutual aid effort.
The second alarm called for more fire service resources to assist with the operation at the scene. Mutual aid enables neighboring departments to send personnel and equipment when an incident needs more resources than a single department can handle alone.
Charlton firefighters joined Oxford crews to help manage the situation. Engine companies are typically responsible for fire suppression, while command and support units help organize personnel, equipment, and response activities based on their assigned roles.
This response demonstrated the importance of regional cooperation among fire departments in central Massachusetts.
Departments often depend on mutual aid agreements to improve emergency coverage during structure fires and other incidents that require extra staffing or equipment.
The Charlton Fire Department, located at 10 Power Station Road, serves the town of Charlton and handles a variety of emergency calls, including fires, medical emergencies, and other incidents. Their involvement in the Oxford response showed how coordinated efforts between neighboring communities are essential during such events.
