Charlton, MA — October 11 — Charlton Fire Department Engine 1 (E-1) and Car 1 (C-1) responded to a call at Dudley around 4:40 a.m.on October 11 to assist with a second-alarm residential fire at 305 Dudley Southbridge Road.
Firefighters from the Charlton Fire Department joined crews from nearby communities to help with fire suppression efforts.
The situation needed more resources, so a mutual aid response was activated as firefighters worked to control the fire.
Charlton personnel participated in both extinguishing and overhaul operations. Overhaul is the process of inspecting affected areas for any remaining fire or hot spots to ensure the fire does not reignite after the main flames have been put out.
During the incident, Charlton firefighters found a folded American flag that belonged to the homeowner and carefully preserved it. This recovery illustrated the role firefighters play in protecting personal items that hold special meaning to residents while performing their duties.
Mutual aid agreements enable fire departments to share personnel and equipment during emergencies that require extra support. These coordinated efforts help communities handle major incidents while maintaining an organized and effective response across agencies.
The Charlton Fire Department is based at 10 Power Station Road and provides emergency services to Charlton while also offering support to neighboring communities when needed.
