Tuesday, 19 August 2025 – The Durham Fire Department partnered with the Oyster River School District Transportation Division during its annual safety day training.
To simulate a realistic emergency, firefighters provided theatrical smoke inside a school bus, creating a low-visibility environment. This exercise allowed bus drivers to practice evacuation procedures, helping them prepare for potential fire or smoke conditions while transporting students.
The department thanked Trish Daley and Deputy Chief Rob Atwater for coordinating the effort, noting that the training was an important step in keeping both drivers and students safe.
