ORCHARD PARK, NY — August 13 —The Newton Abbott Fire Company, Inc. Provided mutual aid to the Windom Fire District for a reported large truck fire near a building. Hillcrest 9-1 arrived first and reported a large box truck with heavy flames visible from the cab.

Two other vehicles were also exposed to the fire, raising immediate concerns about potential spread.

Newton Abbott 6 was the first of the mutual-aid units to arrive and began fire suppression efforts.

Windom crews set up a water supply, allowing firefighters to maintain a continuous attack on the burning vehicle.

Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to the two nearby vehicles or the adjacent building.

Their coordinated efforts successfully contained the fire to the original truck.

Newton Abbott 6, also referred to as “The Quint,” was a 1993 Simon/LTI quintuple-combination pumper with a 75-foot aerial.

This apparatus was capable of operating as both a fire engine and a ladder truck.

Newton Abbott Fire Company, Inc. was based at 3426 Abbott Road and served the Town of Hamburg. Erie County identified Newton-Abbott, Windom, and Hillcrest as the fire companies providing service to the area.
