At 3:54 a.m. on Sunday, August 31st, the Danbury Fire Department’s “A” Platoon, under the command of Deputy Chief Jaime Schiller, was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 51 Liberty Street.

The three-story brick building houses a restaurant on the first floor with apartments above. On arrival, firefighters located flames in the ceiling and roof area of the kitchen in the building’s rear one-story addition.

Crews quickly evacuated about a dozen residents from the apartments while stretching hoselines to confine the blaze. The fire was knocked down within minutes using two lines, preventing it from spreading beyond the kitchen roof area.

No residents were injured during the fire or evacuation. The Danbury Police Department assisted by closing Liberty Street at Patriot Drive, aiding displaced tenants, and providing language support. Danbury EMS remained on standby to support firefighter rehabilitation needs.

Operating units included Car 30 (Deputy Chief), TAC 1, Engines 22, 23, 24, Truck 1, and Squad 21. Volunteer Squad 19 responded to assist the Fire Marshal’s Office with portable lighting.

The Danbury Building Department and Health Department were notified, and the Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation into the cause. Liberty Street was reopened by 6:00 a.m. No injuries were reported, and no residents were displaced.
