NEWPORT, N.Y. (Monday, Aug. 25, 2025) — The Newport Fire Company No. 4 is emphasizing its technical rescue capabilities, noting that more than 20 members are trained in water, ice and rope rescues to serve the community and neighboring departments.

The department’s water rescue team, in partnership with the Barneveld Fire Department, includes certified swift-water technicians, ice-water specialists and flood-level rescue personnel.

Officials said members dedicate countless hours each year to training on West Canada Creek and other sites to maintain readiness for emergencies.

“Our goal is to provide the best for our community,” the department said in a statement thanking its volunteers for their commitment.
