CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. (Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025) — Firefighters quickly extinguished a burning SUV on Interstate 81 northbound Wednesday evening, officials said.

The Cortlandville Fire Department was dispatched just before 6 p.m. near the 44-mile marker. Crews arrived to find the vehicle fully involved in flames, according to the department.

The driver reported mechanical issues before the fire began. No injuries were reported.

One lane of I-81 northbound was closed while firefighters worked at the scene. The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and Ron’s Towing assisted, and the road was fully reopened by 7 p.m.
