MEADOWMERE PARK, NY — August 19 — The Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance to the Meadowmere Park firefighters following a gasoline tanker accident near Rockaway Turnpike and East Avenue.

Valley Stream Engine 344 and Tower Ladder 345 were involved in the incident and worked alongside other local departments during the lengthy hazardous materials response.

The overturned tanker had a capacity of 12,400 gallons and was carrying about 8,500 gallons of gasoline.

Officials stated that about 2,000 gallons of gasoline spilled onto the road, into storm drains and toward waterways linked to Jamaica Bay.NOAA separately noted the incident as a gasoline spill of approximately 3,000 gallons.

Firefighters used foam to manage gasoline vapors while working to stop the remaining leak and move the remaining fuel from the damaged tanker.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal mentioned that foam was reapplied as needed due to the heat and ongoing vapor risks.

The response involved around 30 fire departments, along with FDNY, Nassau County police, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S.

Coast Guard.No serious injuries were reported.

Valley Stream's Engine 344 and Tower Ladder 345 are part of the department, which operates from several locations, including its main headquarters at 49 Rockaway Parkway.
