LAWRENCE, NY — August 4 — The Woodmere Volunteer Fire Department was called to help with a reported building fire at 344 Central Avenue in Lawrence.Upon arrival, Lawrence-Cedarhurst firefighters found a fire involving a pizzeria and a nearby vacant storefront, which led to the dispatch of more resources.

Woodmere firefighters responded with Engine 354 and Ambulance 3591.

Engine 354 extended a second line into the vacant store while efforts were made to control the fire.The incident was upgraded to a second alarm, leading to the arrival of additional fire companies from other departments.

Fire departments that provided assistance included the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, Inwood Fire Department, City of Long Beach Fire Department, Atlantic Beach Rescue, Hewlett Fire Department, and Rockville Centre Fire Department.

According to News 12, the fire started at Jerusalem Pizza around 3:30 a.m.

and spread into the neighboring vacant storefront.Approximately 150 firefighters were involved, and the fire was brought under control within about 90 minutes.No injuries were reported.

The adjacent National Council of Jewish Women Peninsula Section thrift store at 342 Central Avenue also suffered smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and the Nassau County Police Department's Arson/Bomb Squad handling the inquiry.
