NORTH TONAWANDA, NY — August 1 — North Tonawanda Professional Firefighters Local 1333 responded to a fully involved shed fire located in the 100 block of Mead Street, next to a building. The incident was reported as a shed fire that had spread to a nearby multiple-unit apartment building.

Under the command of Assistant Chief Tim Berecz, Platoon 4 was dispatched with Truck 1, Engine 4, Engine 6, and Car 10.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the shed was completely engulfed, with the fire spreading into the adjacent apartment building.

Additional resources were requested, including a FAST team from the City of Tonawanda Professional Firefighters.

Firefighters worked on extinguishing the exterior fire while others entered the apartment building.They found that the fire had spread through the windows into multiple apartments, requiring additional hose lines to control the situation.

The City of Tonawanda Professional Firefighters also conducted roof operations.

Adams Fire Company provided additional personnel and covered North Tonawanda headquarters, while Bergholz Volunteer Fire Department took over the FAST responsibilities.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the apartment fires and located and put out the fire in the attic.

Ventilation and overhaul operations were carried out, and the crews returned to service approximately 90 minutes after the initial response.

The North Tonawanda Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 1333 is the city's career firefighters' organization, as confirmed by city records, which show the current collective bargaining agreement is valid through 2027.

This incident highlighted the importance of mutual-aid coordination when a fire extends beyond the original area of involvement.
