ODESSA, N.Y. (Friday, Aug. 22, 2025) — Elmira Heights firefighters were among several departments that responded early Friday to a residential structure fire in Schuyler County, officials said.
The blaze occurred just before dawn in the Odessa Fire District, drawing mutual aid from departments across Schuyler, Tompkins and Chemung counties. Crews worked for nearly three hours to contain the fire.
Village of Odessa officials said heavy water use during suppression operations stirred sediment in the municipal water system, temporarily affecting water clarity.
Elmira Heights Fire Department reported its crew returned safely after assisting with suppression efforts. No injuries were reported.
