CONKLIN, NY — July 30, 2026 —  During a hectic 24-hour period, members of the Conklin Volunteer Fire Department responded to six service requests, offering station coverage, tanker support, fire suppression, and help to other communities.

The Five Mile Point Fire District's brush-fire and tanker-assist assignment for a sizable outdoor fire marked the start of the call sequence.

The department was also called to a fire alarm at Conklin's Susquehanna Valley High School as Conklin units worked on that incident. Students in grades 9 through 12 attend the school, which is situated at 1040 Conklin Road. (townofconklin.gov)

Tanker 46 was then put on standby at the Hallstead Fire Station as Hallstead firemen responded to a reported rail car fire in Great Bend, Pennsylvania. As the incident developed, Tanker 46 was requested to assist Five Mile Point Fire when the train car fire extended into its district. Conklin firefighters provided tanker support at the scene, according to the department's account.
