Taunton, NY - Rapid response and aggressive handline operations by the Taunton Fire Department brought an active pickup truck engine fire under control in just three minutes Wednesday afternoon along Split Rock Road.

At 12:37 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Taunton units were dispatched to the 4100 block of Split Rock Road for reports of a vehicle fire. Engine 4 under Deputy Chief Harris, Rescue 1 staffed by Firefighter Ovitt, and Rescue 2 led by Lieutenant Cox mobilized on dispatch, arriving on location approximately three minutes later to find a pickup truck with flames actively burning inside the engine compartment.

Crews immediately pulled and charged a bumper handline, launching a targeted attack into the engine bay that smothered the fire within three minutes of arrival, preventing the blaze from breaching the passenger cab or fuel system.

Paramedics from AMR Ambulance evaluated the vehicle's occupant on scene for potential smoke exposure or injury. Once overhaul was complete and the hazard was confirmed fully mitigated, Taunton units transferred scene control to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office for vehicle removal and officially returned to service.
