At 10:19 a.m. this morning, the first alarm assignment was dispatched to the 300 West block of Glenwood Avenue for a reported dwelling fire. Chief Troiano (Chief 3) arrived within minutes and confirmed smoke showing from a one-story occupied private residence.

Squad Company 3 (D Platoon) launched an aggressive interior attack as North Wildwood Fire Department Ladder Company 2 conducted primary searches of the home. Fortunately, the sole occupant had already escaped prior to fire department arrival and was treated on scene by Wildwood Crest EMS for smoke inhalation. No additional civilians were inside, and there were no reported injuries to either residents or firefighters.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes of arrival. The Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause. The operation was supported by multiple agencies. On scene were Quint Company 3, Rescue Company 3, Tower 4 (Wildwood Crest FD), and Squad 72 (Rio Grande FD). Coverage for the island during the incident was provided by Stone Harbor Fire Department Engine Company 13, Anglesea Fire Company Ladder 2-2, and North Wildwood VFC Engine 2-1. The City of Wildwood Police Department assisted with traffic and crowd control, while Middle Township Ambulance Corps provided firefighter rehab.

Units remained on location for approximately two hours before clearing.
