RIVERDALE, NJ — August 26, 2026 — Riverdale Fire Department crews responded Wednesday to a motor vehicle crash on Hamburg Turnpike near Newark Pompton Turnpike.

Chief 35 and Squad 33 responded to the crash, where firefighters assisted with securing the scene and addressing hazards created by the damaged vehicles.

The Squad 33 crew secured the battery on one of the involved vehicles and used Speedy Dry to absorb spilled automotive fluids on the roadway.

Tri-Boro First Aid Squad, Atlantic Paramedics and the Riverdale Police Department were also operating at the scene.

While crews worked around the engaged automobiles and road dangers, cooperation between fire, EMS, and law enforcement officials was necessary.

Because damaged electrical systems can produce extra risks, such as the possibility of sparks or unintentional vehicle movement, battery isolation is frequently used in car collision response. While the vehicles are being handled, absorbing spilled fluids can help maintain the roads safer and lessen slide dangers.

The number of automobiles involved, whether extrication was necessary, the severity of injuries, and the reason for the collision were not disclosed in the Riverdale Fire Department's official statement.
