Firefighters from several Middlesex County departments responded to a residential fire on Front Street that escalated to three alarms and required an extended mutual-aid operation.

The fire was reported at approximately 1:02 a.m. on August 9, 2026, in Jamesburg, New Jersey. Jamesburg Fire Department handled the initial response, where crews encountered a heavily involved structure. Additional alarms brought mutual-aid companies into the borough as suppression, search and water-supply operations continued.

Helmetta Fire Department Engine 36-1 reportedly arrived as the second-due engine, established a water supply and assisted with search and suppression. Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 also responded with Heavy Rescue 51, Deputy 51 and Engine 51-1, assisting with ladder placement, hoseline operations, SCBA cylinder refilling and overhaul.

As conditions worsened, crews transitioned to exterior master-stream operations and the incident was upgraded to a third alarm. Fire-service reporting also indicated a partial second-floor collapse and a Mayday during the operation, with all firefighters later accounted for.

Two residents died in the fire. A third resident, a 39-year-old woman, was transported to Old Bridge Medical Center. Two firefighters were also transported with minor injuries and were later released.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Jamesburg Police Department continued the investigation into the cause. Preliminary findings indicated the fire was not considered suspicious and foul play was not suspected.
