Montclair, N.J. — July 25 — When Montclair firefighters arrived on Saturday afternoon in response to a reported house fire on South Mountain Avenue, they discovered that the second and third floors of a sizable three-story home were on fire.

As workers attempted to put out the fire and look for an extension, the fire resulted in a second-alarm assignment. After the main body of fire was destroyed, a thorough overhaul was carried out. According to the Montclair Fire Department, once more resources were committed, the fire was put out.

According to the Montclair Firefighters Foundation, firefighters from Orange, Nutley, and West Orange offered mutual aid. Cedar Grove, Bloomfield, and Clifton were also helping Montclair throughout the incident, according to additional reporting from Montclair Patch.

According to the department's statement, after they arrived, crews thoroughly inspected the house. After being hurt during the operation, a Montclair firefighter was sent to Mountainside Hospital to receive medical attention. There were no reported injuries among the residents.

It was the second day in a row that Montclair firefighters worked at a house fire, with the South Mountain Avenue fire occurring one day after another active fire on North Mountain Avenue. The North Mountain Avenue fire was caused by a fallen rear deck, and the fire spread to the outside wall of the house.

Investigators from the Montclair Fire Department are still looking into the cause of the South Mountain Avenue fire.

The incident featured numerous floors of interior fire, overhaul, and coordination with multiple mutual-aid companies for the personnel working at the second-alarm fire.
