A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in a home on Lafayette Avenue, sending smoke billowing from the roof and drawing a large emergency response, officials said.
Deputy Chief 211 of the Dumont Fire Department was first on the scene and confirmed a working fire after spotting smoke rising from the structure.
Firefighters found flames on the first floor that had spread to the upper level, authorities said. A second alarm was called to bring in additional crews to assist with extensive overhaul operations, made more challenging by the day’s weather conditions.
Police, EMS and mutual aid departments also responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported, and officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
