Transformer malfunction forces evacuation of Allendale commercial building

Firefighters evacuated a commercial building Tuesday evening after an electrical transformer began smoking inside, officials said.
The Allendale Fire Department was dispatched to the borough shortly after the malfunction was reported. Crews cut power to the building and checked to ensure everyone had left safely.
No injuries were reported, and all occupants were accounted for, fire officials said.
Authorities said the quick response prevented further damage, and the cause of the malfunction remains under investigation.
