At 2:44 a.m. on August 4, the Bernardston Fire Department arrived at the 200 block of Brattleboro Road in the Leyden district due to a reported tree on wires that was on fire.
When Car 1, Engine 2, and Tanker 1 arrived, they discovered a tree sitting on utility lines and obstructing the road. Primary power lines were on the ground after breaking, while cable and fiber wires were on fire.
In order to clear the tree and restore the road, firefighters collaborated with Eversource. When the road was reopened, fire units left, but Eversource stayed to restore power.
