Charlestown-Richmond Crews Managed Route 1 Crash

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Charlestown, R.I. — August 1 — The fire departments of Charlestown-Richmond and Cross Mills responded to a rolled-over trailer hauling a small excavator on Route 1. When Engine 716 and Charlestown Police arrived, they blocked the northbound shoulder and slow lane next to the RIDOT state garage. From a different position, Engine 812 offered extra traffic protection.

While a flatbed was being brought in to upright the trailer and remove the digger, Route 1 was occasionally completely closed. Throughout the recovery, firefighters kept their workspace secure. The road was reopened to all lanes after the equipment and trailer were removed. Without any more issues being reported, the response was cleared.
