Carolina, R.I. — August 10 — The Richmond-Carolina Fire District was called to a big outdoor fire behind a house. Firefighters discovered building materials blazing close to a shed that had been demolished. The homeowner was helped by crews to put out the fire. According to the Richmond-Carolina Fire District's permission restrictions, only clean brush or untreated wood may be burned, and Rhode Island regulations limit open burning to approved materials.

Treated timber, building supplies, and other garbage are not allowed. Additionally, the district mandates formal permits for open burning.
