Seven Escape Apartment Fire in Newburgh; Five Firefighters Injured

NEWBURGH, NY – Newburgh FD responded to a reported structure fire on August 16th around 1:00 PM at 187 Broadway.
Upon arrival, command found smoke coming from the roof area and requested a second alarm. Mutual aid was called from West Point, Air Guard, New Windsor, Cronomer Valley, Castle Point, Beacon, and Cornwall-on-Hudson, all responding to the scene.
Firefighters used hand lines and ground ladders to attack the fire, which was coming from the rear of the apartment.
Seven occupants were inside the apartment at the time of the fire and all were able to get out safely.
Five firefighters were transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Hospital. A City of Newburgh Fire Investigator was called to the scene.
City of Newburgh Police, Town of Newburgh Police, New Windsor Police, and Empress EMS were also on scene.
Central Hudson was requested to cut gas and power to the building.
Orange County Fire Coordinator 36-1 and Deputy Fire Coordinator 36-13 were both on scene.
Firefighters conducted overhaul operations in the three-floor apartment.
The fire is currently under investigation.
