At at 4:17 a.m. on August 3, the Excelsior Fire Company responded to a reported home fire with assistance from Greenwood Station 16, Hookies Station 33, and Neptune Station 34.

Quint 22, Engine 22, Tanker 22, and Chief 22-3, T. Whiteford, responded in Command 22. When crews looked into allegations of smoke and flickering lights in a room, they discovered an overheated power strip that had melted and caught fire.

Firefighters swiftly put out the fire, ventilated the house, and looked for more issues. Once the fire was found to be extinguished, the response was limited to a Station 22 box. Residents were warned by the agency to avoid overloading power strips and to use them correctly.
