LODI, NJ - An early evening fire damaged a Lodi auto body shop on August 5th.

At approximately 5:22 P.M., the Lodi Fire Department was dispatched for a working fire on Massey St. Upon further investigation it was found that smoke was issuing from Speed Auto Body at 13 Rennie Place off Union Street, a one-story commercial building.

As chiefs arrived, they observed heavy smoke showing. Engine 612 arrived first due and stretched two lines to the interior while Ladder 613 positioned themselves to the roof. Second due Engine 614 supplied water to Engine 612 and Ladder 613.

Members made an aggressive interior attack and knocked the fire down within 20 minutes. Additional members were sent to cut a hole and extinguish the fire in the roof. The incident quickly went to two alarms, but firefighters had it under control quickly. No injuries were reported.

The fire is currently under investigation by Lodi Fire Prevention Bureau. Mutual aid from Garfield, Hackensack and Hasbrouck Heights assisted on scene while companies from Rochelle Park, Saddle Brook and Wallington covered. Rehab services were provided by County Wide canteen. The fire was officially declared under control about one hour later by Chief of Dept. Garzon.
