At around 11:24 p.m. on July 8, the West Islip Fire Department arrived at a car accident with a fully involved vehicle fire on the northbound Robert Moses Causeway close to Montauk Highway.

New York State Police said that one of the cars had caught fire while firefighters were on their way. As soon as they arrived, firemen set up hose lines and launched a vigorous fire attack while emergency medical services assessed the crash victims. After conducting primary and secondary searches of the car, firefighters were able to confirm that no people were still inside.

In roughly 20 minutes, the fire was contained, and no significant casualties were reported.
