At at 3:30 p.m. on July 1, the Mastic Fire Department responded to a car accident with a reported entrapment.
When Assistant Chief Rudy Sunderman arrived first, he verified that in order to reach the trapped individual, firemen would have to open a car door. Crews swiftly removed the door using hydraulic rescue equipment after Engine 5-12-1 arrived, enabling EMS professionals to reach and carry the patient.
While firefighters finished operations and secured the area, fire police helped with traffic control and road cleanup.
