Great Neck, N.Y. — July 15 — A completely engaged automobile fire on New Hyde Park Road was responded to by the Manhasset-Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department, located at 170 East Shore Road. When firefighters from Companies 2 and 5 arrived, they saw that the car was heavily involved. They quickly started suppression operations by deploying handlines. In order to prevent rekindling, crews swiftly put out the fire, secured the car, and looked for any hot areas.
While firemen finished the overhaul and made sure the area was safe for drivers, traffic was managed. The department's ongoing operational readiness and the significance of prompt action during roadway fire situations throughout the Great Neck response region were both highlighted by the synchronized response.
