Atlantic Beach Rescue Assisted at Freeport HazMat Incident

Atlantic Beach, N.Y. — July 1 — Ambulance 369 was sent by Department Atlantic Beach Rescue, 1 Rescue Rd., Atlantic Beach, NY 11509-1247, to help the Freeport Fire Department in the event of a chemical spill at a Home Depot store. Thirteen minor injuries were sustained in the event, and first-arriving emergency medical personnel assessed and treated the victims.


The Nassau County Office of the Fire Marshal's hazardous materials teams were assisted by Atlantic Beach Rescue personnel, who also offered medical monitoring. While teams worked at the spot, more members maintained headquarters to keep the hamlet covered for emergencies. During hazardous materials events, the coordinated response demonstrated the importance of regional coordination, EMS support, and mutual aid.
