BAY SHORE, NY - Early on July 6th, the Bay Shore Fire Department was called to a boat fire behind a house on South Montgomery Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a fire in a 17-foot center console vessel's stern compartment. After dispatching Marine 26, firefighters used a dry chemical extinguisher to completely put out the residual fire before extending a hose line from the fireboat. A petroleum spill in the canal was reported to the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau provided on-site assistance. In less than an hour, staff were back on the job after the problem was brought under control without further delay.
