Multi-Agency Crews Completed Backcountry Rescue

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Montgomery, VT. — June 27 — In order to help the Lowell Fire Department save an injured hiker on Vermont's Long Trail close to Tillotson's Peak, Montgomery Fire and First Response dispatched additional personnel. The patient was found by crews at the Tillotson Shelter, where EMS assessed the hiker before getting ready for transport. Together with Montgomery Search and Rescue, firefighters from Montgomery, Lowell, and Troy used a coordinated litter operation to carry the patient down the mountain through difficult terrain.

The patient was taken to the trailhead by Newport Ambulance for additional treatment. In Vermont's isolated alpine regions, the rescue demonstrated the value of interagency coordination, training, and communication during backcountry crises.
