HazMat Response Mitigates Propane Leak After Vehicle Strike

Burke, VT - The East Burke Fire Brigade responded to an incident in Kirby involving an underground propane tank that had been struck by a vehicle, resulting in an active gas leak.


Upon arrival, crews secured the area, controlled hazards, and established a safe perimeter to protect the public and responders. Recognizing the risks associated with a propane release, command requested assistance from the Vermont Hazardous Materials Response Team.


Hazardous materials personnel responded and worked with fire crews to assess the leak and implement mitigation measures. The fuel company also responded to the scene and completed repairs to the damaged tank, successfully stopping the leak and stabilizing the situation.
