Mutual Aid Companies Assist at Route 34 Auto Shop Fire

Firefighters contained a vehicle fire inside a Route 34 automotive repair and tire shop before significant extension occurred through the commercial building. Matawan Fire Department companies were dispatched at approximately 12:30 p.m. on July 19, 2026, in Matawan, New Jersey, for a reported structure fire at 938 Route 34. Crews stretched hoselines and forced entry into the building, where they located a vehicle burning inside the shop. Matawan operated as the first-due department, with mutual aid reported from Morganville, Aberdeen Hose & Chemical Company No. 1, Cliffwood Fire Company, Keyport Fire Department and Union Beach. Crews advanced two 1¾-inch handlines and knocked down the fire within approximately 10 minutes, according to the submitted incident information. Published reporting confirms firefighters quickly contained the fire before it caused significant damage to the remainder of the building. No injuries were reported.
