SUNDERLAND, VT — Fire and rescue personnel from Arlington and Manchester responded to a woods rescue in the Bourn Pond area of the Lye Brook Wilderness on July 13th at approximately 3 AM.

Arlington Fire Department was the primary fire agency for the incident, with Manchester Fire Department responding on mutual aid to assist with the operation. Five Manchester firefighters were deployed as crews worked to locate and reach the individual in the remote wooded area.

Firefighters worked together while navigating the difficult terrain surrounding Bourn Pond. The pond is located in Sunderland within the Lye Brook Wilderness, a heavily forested area where access can require responders to travel considerable distances by trail.

Crews coordinated their efforts to reach the individual and provide assistance while additional personnel supported the operation. The remote location and limited access presented additional challenges for firefighters working in the wilderness area.

Emergency personnel remained committed to the incident until the individual was accounted for and the rescue operation was completed. Crews then cleared the area and returned to service.

Bourn Pond is a 48-acre wilderness pond located within Sunderland. Vermont emergency-service mapping identifies Arlington Fire Department and Arlington Rescue as the primary fire and EMS agencies serving the area.
