Newport City, VT - The City of Newport Fire Department responded to a reported tractor-trailer fire on Airport Road. The vehicle, which was en route to the landfill, experienced a trailer brake failure that ignited a fire beneath the trailer.

Firefighters acted quickly to extinguish the fire underneath the trailer; however, the fire had extended into the trailer’s contents. The trailer was subsequently escorted to the landfill, where it was unloaded, allowing crews to fully extinguish the remaining fire with the assistance of heavy equipment.

Personnel remained on scene to ensure complete extinguishment and scene safety before returning to service.
