This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

CRESSKILL, NJ - At around 3:20 P.M. on July 4th, the Cresskill FD was dispatched to 40 Beechwood Rd. for a reported garage fire. First arriving police units reported a fire in a shed with a close exposure to the home.

Chief Ulshoefer arrived on scene and reported a fully involved shed fire that was threatening the home, and extending to a tree and fence. A working fire was transmitted as Engine 1 arrived on scene and stretched an attack line while other members established a supply line. The fire had already melted the siding on the home and ignited a small area of the wood on the exterior.

Crews were able to extinguish all visible fire as mutual aid companies arrived on scene. Dumont Engine 3 was ordered to check for any extension to the interior of the home, and Demarest firefighters assisted with overhaul and hotspots. Tenafly FD arrived and stood by as the FAST. The fire was under control within 30 minutes. One firefighter was treated for minor burns and heat related illness. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental.
