NEWBURGH, NY - Newburgh FD responded to 88 Benkard Ave. on July 4th for a reported structure fire. Firefighters used hand lines and ground ladders to extinguish the fire inside the garage. Firefighters also ventilated the roof area. More than 55-gallons of oil entered Benkard Ave. and flowed into a catch basin. Firefighters deployed booms prior to the catch basin to help contain the spill. Orange County HAZ-MAT was contacted and responded to the scene. Deputy Orange County Fire Coordinators 36-10 and 36-14 were also on scene. City of Newburgh Police blocked the area off to traffic. The fire remains under investigation.
