On June 13 at 2:32 p.m., Franklin Fire Company went to Lincoln Way West to help the St. Thomas Fire Department deal with a dumpster fire that was endangering adjacent structures. When Engine 43 arrived, the surrounding siding was being damaged by the heat from a big dumpster that contained burning wooden skids and flooring supplies.
In order to confine the fire and safeguard nearby structures, firefighters examined the exposures and set up two handlines. Water was supplied during the incident by several regional tanker units. Later, in order to aid crews completely put out the remaining fire and stop it from starting again, Command instructed Engine 9-1 from Mercersburg to use its deck gun to fill the dumpster with water.
